The route starts near Northwich and quickly passes through Anderton (km 1.1), Barnton (km 1.9) and Winnington (km 2.7). Initial sections include minor roads, quiet streets and a short stretch on main roads without cycle lanes (2.2 km total on main roads). Mixed surfaces cover 58% paved and 33% gravel or unpaved, including 11.1 km on paths and 2.3 km on tracks. The first half gains just over half the total 165 m elevation.

After Hartford (km 5.4), the ride moves through Sandiway and Cuddington around 9–10 km where food and shop options include a bakery and convenience store.
