The route leaves Cape Town's City Centre and rises gently straight away, 2.4 km at 2.6% through the Foreshore and District Six, then runs south through Woodstock, Observatory, Mowbray and Newlands. At Claremont a second climb of 2 km at 4% (7.4% maximum) tops out at 131 m near Bishopscourt before the road drops through Wynberg, Tokai and Lakeside to reach the False Bay shore at Muizenberg at 24.9 km. The coast road runs past Trappies Kop and on through Glencairn to Simon's Town at 37.9 km, The Boulders and Miller's Point. From 46.5 km a 2 km climb at 3.6% starts the inland section past Redhill and Ocean View, with a further 1.8 km rise from 63.4 km, before Masiphumelele, Sunnydale and Noordhoek at 75.4 km. The hardest section comes late: short climbs from 76.2 km and 78.7 km lead past Chapman's Peak to the route's high point of 148 m at 80.7 km, then a descent to sea level at Hout Bay, the low point at -7 m. From 88.2 km the road climbs 2.4 km at 4.7% to 136 m, then follows the Atlantic shore through Llandudno, Bakoven, Clifton and Sea Point to finish at Green Point.
