Starting at Flumet at 905 m, this climb heads 11.7 km to the Col des Aravis at 1485 m. The route features two main climbing sections: an initial 1.8 km stretch gaining 107 m at 6.1% average gradient, followed by a longer 7.5 km climb gaining 493 m at 6.6%, peaking at a maximum gradient of 10% and 10%. Nearly all the climb (96%) is on main roads, primarily the D 909 for 11 km.
The surface is 97% paved with a small 3% gravel section. There are 11.2 km on main roads without cycle lanes, and 5.6 km on roads with posted limits of 80 km/h or above. The climbing is predominant, accounting for 81% of the route, with over 7 km at gradients above 5% and nearly 2 km above 8%.

After the first kilometre, there is a 5.3 km stretch without cafes, shops or water until 6.1 km where Le fournil des Aravis bakery and convenience store, drinking water, and toilets are found. The finish area near the Col includes restaurants and a bar.
