68km covered which was way less than we wanted. All in all a pretty miserable day. Did it rain? Was it cold? Did we get a puncture? No. None of the above. As is now typical, we got somewhat lost on the way out of Bratislava. When we finally did find EV6 we managed to start riding the wrong way. Fair play to Donny for spotting the error and initiating the about turn. Today was hot. Very hot but also very windy. When the vista opened up we found ourselves dealing with a horrendous wind. Even the kite surfers were calling it a day as they attempted to stay upright in choppy waters.

We were reduced to a crawl as we battled a fiercesome wind sweeping directly across from a front and right direction. For a brief spell it was in the perfect position as a tail wind and we were swept along at 20km/h without turning a pedal. That did not last long. We decided to move inland to try and reduce the pain. That was only partially successful as we had to deal with horrible rutted farmers tracks. We’d only made it around 45km from Bratislava when the light began to fade and we started to think about a bed for the night. Just off the route we found a series of wooden lodge style cabins next to a bar/restaurant. They wanted 10 Euros a night each. What a bargain we thought. Not quite. It’s like a sauna in here and there is no way to cool it down. Writing this as sleeping is proving impossible. Could be a tough night and an early start as we try to make up lost ground and get closer to the goal. Must be around 170km to Budapest. Praying for a wind direction to give us a fighting chance.
